The MH-53 Pave Low series, a long-range combat search and rescue (CSAR) helicopter, served the U.S. Air Force. Upgraded from HH-53B/C variants of the Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion, it initially replaced the HH-3 'Jolly Green Giant'. Later, these helicopters transitioned to Special Operations missions. The Air Force retired its MH-53J/M fleet in September 2008, succeeded by the CV-22B Osprey.
